Earlier this year, I refactored my SEO campaign as a part of my New Year’s Resolution. I spent most of my time taking an online course about Content Marketing. Well, most SEO people believe that Content is King. Being able to produce an evergreen content can attract users and the most important thing; it can drive high and quality traffic without spending too much effort on SEO. Jason Acidre said that Content is an Investment. Producing an evergreen content can drive you thousands of leads/sales.
Content Marketing is not only good to attract users. In fact, according to SEMRUSH, “The average Google first page result contains 1,890 words”
By that data alone, we can conclude that we can make a detour to our SEO campaign by creating a solid and evergreen content. Most SEOs are really obsessed with backlinks. In a nutshell, having a quality links can really help you gain a better ranking on SERPs. Based on the latest case study by Backlinko, Backlink remain an extremely Google ranking factor. As SEO continues to evolve and Search Engine giant continues to change their algorithm, acquiring a backlink has been really difficult as ever. So, for this year, I will suggest, don’t underestimate the value of content instead, used it as your biggest asset in your marketing campaign.
What Makes Content Evergreen?
There are lots of content all over the web. Some of it is originally written. Some are duplicates or just copied from another article. Well, What Makes the Content Evergreen?
According to Moz, evergreen content needs to provide information that is not likely to change in the near future.
Let’s go deeper into it. In the world of content marketing, the term “evergreen” is the extremely popular word. But the question is, do you know exactly what evergreen content is? To make it easy to understand, think of the evergreen tree: anytime of the month, years and years and years, it will still sprout needles that are green. The same as the content – it will stay fresh and valuable for months, years and even decades to come. In short, it is Timeless and Relevant.
Now, that you really understand what Evergreen Content is, I’m pretty sure, you will start thinking How does it really matter? Let’s talk about it!
Why Does Evergreen Content Matter?
Like what I’ve said, Evergreen Content is Timeless and Relevant. Meaning, it will remain fresh and valuable to people after years and years and years. No doubt, it can benefit both in your SEO campaign and for your business growth. If you consistently produce evergreen content, you can have these:
1.High Website Traffic
The more relevant your content is, Google will consider it as an authority piece. Meaning, Google will start trusting your site. It can both benefit to users and for search engines. You will eventually build trust for users and for search engines. So if Google considers you as an authority, no doubt you will take a high leap to Search Engine Result Page (SERP). It means, lot of people can see your content. More visitors, More Traffic!
Increased web traffic means increased the opportunity to acquire leads. If you run a lead generation campaign, content marketing is the force to reckon with. You can integrate your lead generation campaign with creating an evergreen content. Understanding that you have lots of visitors, adding call-to-action for your content can help your leads grow. More leads, More possibility for Conversion!
3.Better Search Rankings
This is really obvious. With the Google Panda Update, it intends to stop sites with poor quality content from working their way into Google’s top search results. So, it really means that Google puts a huge importance of having quality content. We just personally experienced a lot of drastic changes coming from Google. In fact, Google constantly strives to improve their performance by providing the best possible results for every query. Having an evergreen content can gain you trust from Google and no doubt you can have a better search rankings.
Now, I will give you a solid example to solidify “how evergreen content can get you better search ranking without spending too much effort on link building?”
If you notice, most of Jason Acidre’s post contains lots of comments, huge amount of social shares and a natural profile of inbound links. His content is really linkable and very valuable.
Here is the example of Jason Acidre’s post on his blog
Now, let’s take a look on its comment section.
As you notice, there are lots of people engaging on that single post. It really means that there are a lot of people saw this. In that comment section alone, we can say that this content is really reliable. Most people consider it as a great reference and showing trust because he consistently produces high quality content. I don’t have access or permission to access his Google Analytics but I’m pretty sure he has a tremendous amount of traffic.

Evergreen Content is really a powerful tool to succeed in your Digital Marketing Campaign as a whole. It is a great asset in building your brand, building your audience and in building your business in general. If you look at the bigger picture, Evergreen Content is a solid foundation for your overall Content Marketing strategy.
My biggest mistake as an SEO Strategist is, I was really obsessed with the links and I’m pretty sure some of you have this kind of mindset. This year, acquiring links is very competitive compared to last 10 years. It is worth the effort to focus on your Content Marketing Campaign. As much as possible, continue to produce high quality content.
Being an SEO requires a wide skill set. It is the perfect time to diversify your approach in SEO. Continue to learn something new and don’t be afraid to fail. It is usual for us SEOs to fail several times. I agree, there is always a rule of thumb or the best practices, but we are already aware that Search Engine continues to evolve and there’s no reason for us to be stagnant. We will keep trying new things and adapt to the changes. Over your experiment, you will fail a lot of times but the most important thing there, keep going! Don’t belittle yourself. The good thing of being an SEO is we can become a scientist, inventor, investigator, wizard and even an artist. So let’s all embrace this challenge.
